Boyle Celtic 0 Shiven Rovers 2

Shiven first team turned a dreary afternoon in north Roscommon into Super Sunday with their best performance of the season against last years FAI cup semi finalists. Missing some regulars Shiven took a while to settle but good defending from Tom Doyle and Frank Kilcommins kept Boyle at bay. As the half wore on, Shiven gained more possession and forced a number of corners. From one of these Aidan McNerney delivered an inch-perfect cross which Luke Burke buried to give the visitors¬† a 1-0 half time lead. In the second half Boyle again started strongly, but Shiven continued to create chances, with Luke Burke firing over; Joe Hunt going a little lower but hitting the crossbar; and Rory Cunningham having a good effort blocked. However, luck finally went our way and a mix up in the Boyle defence left Joe Hunt with a simple tap in to double Shiven’s lead. From here out until the 90th minute, the Shiven defence did a super job with Pierce McDonagh sitting in front, and Ryan Butler and Keith Murphy always on the cover. When Boyle did get through, goalkeeper Shane Delaney was there to make some great saves, including one from a penalty. Mirsad caused them trouble all day on the right and never stopped running. Darragh Murphy and Riad Zenjalluh came on to finish a great team performance.

Training continues Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 and we expect to have a friendly game next Sunday.
